Scale and growth rate:

Doubling in five years, and the next stage will still see double-digit growth.

In 2025, the e-commerce market size in the United Arab Emirates will reach 42.2 billion dirhams (approximately 11.5 billion US dollars), having increased by more than double compared to 17.6 billion dirhams (approximately 4.8 billion US dollars) in 2020. Over the past five years, the market has expanded rapidly at a compound annual growth rate of 19%.

This growth momentum is far from over. The report predicts that the market will continue to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 9.9% from 2026 to 2030, reaching 67.2 billion dirhams (approximately 18.3 billion US dollars) by 2030.

In just 2025 alone, the e-commerce market in the United Arab Emirates achieved a year-on-year growth rate of approximately 31%.

The online penetration rate continues to deepen:

For every six dollars spent on retail, one dollar is spent online.

The proportion of online retail in the total social consumer goods retail sales in the United Arab Emirates is expected to be around 15.7% in 2025, indicating that for every $6 spent by consumers, nearly $1 is completed through e-commerce. It is projected that this ratio will exceed 20% by 2030.

This continuous increase in penetration rate reflects the maturation of the digital business ecosystem in the United Arab Emirates, rather than a simple shift in consumption behavior.

What sells best?

Clothing and shoes are the main products, while household appliances are expected to perform well.

Clothing and footwear are the dominant categories in the e-commerce market of the United Arab Emirates. In 2025, their sales reached 11.4 billion dirhams (approximately 3.1 billion US dollars), accounting for about 27% of the entire e-commerce market. Consumer electronics and home care categories followed closely behind.

Looking ahead, consumer appliances are reported to be particularly favored. The high purchasing power, the demand for high-end products, and the trend of consumers updating their appliances more frequently will support this category to achieve strong growth.

The next stage driving forces:

AI, instant retail, social e-commerce and payment innovation

The report clearly states that several major trends shaping the next stage of growth in the UAE's e-commerce sector include:

(1) Artificial intelligence and data-driven personalization are reshaping the consumer experience. Over 71% of retailers in the United Arab Emirates are investing in AI systems to analyze customer behavior and generate personalized recommendations; 53% of consumers in the Middle East and North Africa are already using AI visual search tools to find products.

(2) Instant commerce and last-mile delivery continue to expand. Local platforms such as Noon have launched a 15-minute delivery service, redefining the expected speed through a dense network of pop-up stores and a location selection strategy based on demand analysis.

(3) Social media and shopping are increasingly integrating. Social e-commerce is being rapidly embraced by the younger generation and has become an important channel for brands to reach consumers.

(4) Digital wallets, pay-as-you-go models and embedded finance are emerging as key growth drivers, offering consumers faster and more flexible payment options.

Radiation in North Africa, Middle East and South Asia:

Regional market expected to reach 247.6 billion US dollars by 2030

The value of the UAE extends far beyond its domestic market. The e-commerce market in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region covered by the report has grown from 232.1 billion dirhams (approximately 63.2 billion US dollars) in 2020 to 519.2 billion dirhams (approximately 141.4 billion US dollars) in 2025, doubling in size over the course of five years.

It is projected that by 2030, this regional market will reach approximately 909.3 billion dirhams (about 247.6 billion US dollars). The driving forces include the widespread adoption of digital payments, the increase in internet penetration rates, the expansion of consumer participation, and the continuous investment in logistics infrastructure.

Mohsen Ahmad, the CEO of EZDubai Logistics Hub, said: "The report results demonstrate the continuous strength and maturity of the UAE's digital economy, as well as the significant opportunities still existing in the entire region."

For sellers who aim to establish a presence in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, with its Jebel Ali Port, Dubai International Airport and free zone policies, remains the preferred staging point for e-commerce distribution, serving as a gateway to the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and even Europe.
