Strategic Synergy and Shared Vision

The signing of this agreement coincides with Nigeria's implementation of a series of domestic economic reforms. Nigeria's “Hope for Renewal Agenda” aims to promote economic diversification and reduce dependence on petroleum. For Nigeria, the signing of the agreement with the UAE also represents a significant step in its participation in the broader Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement initiative.

It has been confirmed that Nigeria will host the Investopia Africa Summit, the flagship investment platform of the United Arab Emirates, in Lagos on 2 February 2026.

The agreement forms part of the UAE's broader CEPA programme, a central pillar of its foreign trade agenda aimed at increasing non-oil foreign trade to S1.1tn by2031. In 2024, the initiative contributed to a record non-oil trade figure of $810bn, marking a 14 percent year-on-year increase.

The UAE-Nigeria Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) positions Africa's largest economy as a gateway for Middle Eastern capital into the African continent.
